With Claudio Monteverdi's moving scenes from L'Orfeo and the highly dramatic Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, this programme tells of passionate love, tragic error and irrevocable loss. Heroes fight, lovers fail – and only at the moment of death is the truth recognised.
