Daba

She enchants with a soft, endearing voice – but what she sings has it all. Her songs are about current problems: environmental destruction, the fate of refugees and the role of women in our society. The Moroccan singer Oum has been one of the great vocalists of the world music scene for over 20 years. She impresses with a sound in which she mixes elements of traditional Arabic music and the sounds of the Western Sahara with soul, jazz and electronic music. Her current programme Daba, which means “now” in Moroccan, is an invitation to fully engage with the present.
