Description
Quatuor Ébène’s Beethoven interpretations have set new standards through their rhythmic precision, energy and impressive expressive range. To mark the 200th anniversary of Beethoven’s death, this season’s Quartett series is devoted entirely to the ensemble.
The opening programme includes the first quartet from the early Opus 18, a work in which the young Beethoven already revealed his striking compositional originality, alongside two works from his middle period: the lyrical Opus 74 – nicknamed the “Harp Quartet” because of the pizzicato passages in its first movement – and the highly-charged String Quartet in C major, composed for Prince Razumovsky.
