Before the Konzerthausorchester goes on tour through Germany and Austria with chief conductor Joana Mallwitz and artist in residence Alice Sara Ott as soloist at the piano, the program will be performed at home on Gendarmenmarkt: Beethoven's Third Piano Concerto moves between darkness and bright songfulness. Mozart had already chosen the key of C minor for one of his two famous minor-key piano concertos, which pianist Beethoven particularly appreciated.

In 1905, Gustav Mahler was still complaining: "The Fifth is a cursed work. Nobody gets it." 120 years later, of course, that no longer applies. With its five movements in three sections and key changes that seemed irritating at the time, the symphony is now one of his most frequently performed works. The Adagietto - the resting point in which only string instruments play - is world-famous. Film fans will probably immediately recall Visconti's classic film “Death in Venice”, in which it is used in a dramaturgically highly appropriate way.
