Concert program
"Papa Haydn" mit Werken von Joseph Haydn, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart & Ignaz Pleyel
Description
Our artist in residence, pianist Alice Sara Ott, the historical background that made her create this programme: „Joseph Haydn was lovingly ‘Papa Haydn’ called by his fellow musicians and contemporaries. That was an expression of their affection for him as a human being and a sort of ‘father’ figure, but also of the admiration for him as a composer, whose composition style has not only impacted upon their generation, but many of the coming generations, which would also call him ‘Father of the Symphony’ and ‘Father of the String Quartet’. This programme is a tribute to Haydn and his contemporaries in a Hausmusik style, which sets a contrast to the formal and absolute way we mostly listen to this music these days in concert halls. We have a juxtaposition of songs, chamber and ensemble works by Haydn, Mozart, Pleyel and Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach. Although we do not play all these works in their complete form, the transitions between the matching and contrasting pieces are fluent, giving us a glimpse of how this music was once shared among these musicians and their friends at their homes.“
