Description

To open the West-Eastern Divan Festival, Daniel Barenboim leads the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra at the Philharmonie Berlin in three of the best-known and most influential works of the Classical and Romantic repertoire.

While Beethoven’s “Leonore” Overture No. 3 was first heard in Vienna in 1806, Schubert’s “Great” C-major Symphony did not reach an audience until more than ten years after the composer’s death. Just a few decades later, Richard Wagner took a revolutionary step toward musical modernism with Tristan und Isolde.
