Description
Young Dutch violinist Charlotte Spruit, who has won international acclaim over the past couple of years with prize wins at major competitions such as the Leipzig Bach Competition, makes her recital debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal together with pianist Angus Webster. The duo presents a program replete with musical echoes and reminiscences, taking their motto from Johannes Brahms, who quotes his own song Nachklang (“Echo”) in his First Violin Sonata. While Thomas Adès references English folk music in his Märchentänze, the image of W. B. Yeats’s Wild Swans resonates in the music of Sally Beamish. And Claude Debussy turned to the classical genre of the sonata in his final work, written in 1917.
