Description
Cellist Sol Gabetta embarks on a musical journey in search of her early colleague Lise Cristiani (1825–1853). The cello was actually considered unsuitable for women because of the “indecent” playing position between the knees. However, such narrow-mindedness was swept away when the Frenchwoman thrilled audiences with her fantastic playing on her concert tours throughout Europe. Mendelssohn even dedicated a “Song Without Words” to the musician, who sadly died of cholera at a very young age. With her Cappella Gabetta, Sol Gabetta brings back the repertoire and atmosphere of Cristiani's legendary concerts, paying tribute to the forgotten female pioneer of the cello.
