Description
Just a few days after the world premiere of his most recent opera Das kalte Herz (The Cold Heart) at the Staatsoper Unter den Linden, Matthias Pintscher returns to the Pierre Boulez Saal to lead the first of three performances by the Boulez Ensemble this season. The program features late-20th and early-21st century works for solo instrument and ensemble that interpret the concert principle in very different ways: Olga Neuwirth's ...miramondo multiplo... calls for “cooperation, democratization, and close listening” between the individual and the group. As in the 2006 premiere conducted by Pierre Boulez, the solo part is performed by the acclaimed Swedish trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger. In Hans Werner Henze's 1981 Le Miracle de la rose, on the other hand, clarinetist Boglárka Pecze becomes the protagonist of an "imaginary theater" inspired Jean Genet's eponymous novel. Schumann's Märchenbilder for Viola and Piano serve as a fantastical prelude.
