While Olga Neuwirth’s …miramondo multiplo…, which had its premiere in 2006 conducted by Pierre Boulez, explores “cooperation, democratization, and close listening” between the individual and the group, Hans Werner Henze makes the clarinet the protagonist of an “imaginary theater” in his 1981 Le Miracle de la rose, which was inspired by Jean Genet’s eponymous novel.
