Description
What is often called a passacaglia, chaconne, or canon was known as a “ground” in Baroque England: a series of bass notes or harmonies that were constantly repeated and adorned in ever new variations over the course of a piece. Combining works by some of the greatest Baroque masters with music by Chick Corea and Michael Nyman, recorder virtuoso Stefan Temmingh and the ensemble Nuovo Aspetto have devised a program that explores playful connections across centuries with an improvisatory spirit.
