For Nikolay Lugansky, encountering the music of Richard Wagner was a revelation, and he soon decided to explore the composer’s music dramas on his own instrument. For his Pierre Boulez Saal debut, the Russian pianist performs his own transcriptions from Wagner’s Götterdämmerung, juxtaposed with Liszt’s moving arrangement of Isoldes Liebestod and works by Beethoven and Schumann.
