Description
Slovenian-born Domen Marinčič is one of the leading experts on the history and repertoire of the viola da gamba, or viol—in both theory and practice. For his Pierre Boulez Saal debut, the artist, who has held a professorship at Hamburg’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater since 2021, presents music by some of the most celebrated French viol virtuosos of the 17th century. Completing the program are works from Germanspeaking countries, among them a fascinating rediscovery from the university library in Ljubljana and music by Carl Friedrich Abel, the last great viol player of the 18th century.
