Description

“Scattered melodies” is the translation of the genre ‘Sanjo’ in traditional Korean music, a form of music for individual Korean instruments accompanied by the hourglass-shaped drum Janggu. The cyclical rhythmic structure of the “Jangdan” – comparable to the talas in Indian music – plays a decisive role in shaping this concert. The bowed zither ajaeng, with its rough, natural sound, takes center stage and blends with the European strings to create a new string sound. Starting with an ajaeng sanjo, the program moves into a contemporary trans-traditional musical direction that seeks to open up new avenues for contemporary art music. With the kind support of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion.
